The MoPH Cautions against the Risk of Death from Mushrooms, Wild Herbs and Toxic Fish
 
The Information Office of the Ministry of Public Health issued the following statement:

The Ministry of Public Health warns against the consumption of some wild herbs, toxic fish, wild mushrooms and certain kinds of food that may endanger human health, after a number of people were found to consume strange food not available in the market as edible food but in the nature as inedible raw materials.
 
  1. The consumption of some kinds of poisonous mushrooms:The poisonous mushrooms grow under trees, in particular during spring.  The consumable and inedible mushrooms are too similar to the extent that they may cause confusion. All types of mushrooms are not edible and eating some kinds of them may cause side effects such as dizziness, instability, cramps, severe diarrhea and vomiting, chest pain and kidney failure… They may lead in some cases to death for they contain deadly poison.
  2. The consumption of poisonous puffer fish: These kinds of fish have invaded our sea more than ten years ago. The consumption of this fish may lead to ascending paralysis and weakness of the muscle of the lower limbs since it contains deadly poison. The symptoms of poisoning start to appear 24 hours after consuming or touching the fish. The poisoning may lead in some cases to death due to the paralysis of the breathing muscles and the nervous system.
The Ministry of Public Health warns everyone against these dangers and calls on the citizens to take into consideration these guidelines to preserve their health.
